IT'S NOT A REVIEW – Meet Sybil and Lea in the virtual bar for a post show chat about Sydney Theatre

UNDER MILK WOOD – BY DYLAN THOMAS
DIRECTED BY KIP WILLIAMS
SYDNEY THEATRE COMPANY – DRAMA THEATRE, SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
22 MAY – 7 JULY 2012
Sybil: I get that not all theatre needs to be done in the original accent – but this is poetry, not just theatre. The rhythms, the alliteration, the phrasing, the humour – a lot of it depends on the accent in this show.
However, I did LOVE the direction. The staging was great!
P.S. I should probably reveal that I’m Welsh, and love Dylan Thomas… so I might have a different point of view on the importance of MY ANCIENT CULTURE.
Lea: Oh man, I loved it! Stylistically it was my cup of tea. Short, stylised vignettes. Distinct characters. Immediate emotions. I was blissfully unaware of the crimes of pronunciation. Huge nod here to my Flinders Uni performances under the direction of Malcolm Fox. Lots of memories came flooding back from those experimental days.
